VoicePal browser extension — privacy policy

The VoicePal browser extension (“VoicePal Extractor”) has one job: to bring your own published posts — from LinkedIn, X and Substack — into your VoicePal account, so the writing VoicePal drafts for you sounds like you. This page describes exactly what it reads, stores and sends. It supplements VoicePal's general privacy policy, which covers your VoicePal account and everything you send to it.
What the extension does
- On your own profile or activity pages on LinkedIn, X (twitter.com / x.com) and Substack, it can read the posts shown on the page and turn them into a clean list (text, link, date, and public like/comment/repost counts).
- It only does this when you ask: you press “Extract my posts” in the extension, or accept its on-page prompt on a profile you've told VoicePal is yours. It does not read pages in the background, and it does not run on any other sites.
- By default the extracted posts are downloaded to your computer as a file and go nowhere else.
- If you connect the extension to your VoicePal account (from app.voicepal.me), it instead sends the extracted posts to your VoicePal account so they can be used to learn your writing voice. Nothing is sent until you have connected it.
What it stores on your device
In the browser's extension storage only: your extension settings — the address of your VoicePal account's delivery endpoint, the personal API key VoicePal issued for the extension (so it can deliver posts as you), and a small configuration file VoicePal provides that tells the extension how to recognise posts on each site (this is data, not code). You can clear all of this at any time from the extension's popup (“Disconnect”) or by removing the extension.
What it sends, and to whom
- To VoicePal only. Once connected, the extension sends the posts you extract, together with your extension API key, to VoicePal's servers (our own backend on
*.convex.site/app.voicepal.me). It also fetches the small configuration file mentioned above from VoicePal. It never sends anything to any other party. - Nothing about your browsing. No page visits, no history, no cookies, no analytics, no crash reports, no advertising identifiers. The extension contains no tracking or analytics code.
- Only your own content. The extension is designed to collect posts authored by you. Please use it only on your own profile pages.
How VoicePal uses what it receives
Your posts are stored in your VoicePal account and used solely to build and improve your personal writing-voice profile and the drafts VoicePal writes for you. They are not sold, not shared with third parties for their own purposes, and not used to train models for other users. Removing a source in VoicePal deletes the posts collected from it; deleting your VoicePal account deletes everything. See the general privacy policy for retention, security and your rights.
Permissions, plainly
- Access to linkedin.com, x.com / twitter.com and *.substack.com — to read the posts on your own pages when you ask.
- Access to app.voicepal.me — to complete the one-click connection to your VoicePal account.
- Storage — to remember your settings.
- Optional access to VoicePal's servers — requested only when you connect the extension, to deliver your posts.
